History
of the company:
"Basta" was established almost 50 years ago and is located
in the town of Tubbercurry in Co. Sligo, Ireland by the Gallagher
Family. In 1990 the company was taken over by a group led by our
present CEO Kevin Norton. At that time the company was a small
player in the ironmongery business, mainly in the Irish market,
with only a small range of products. After much hard work, the
company was restored to profitability; in 1993 it was awarded
the prestigious 'Q'mark, ISO 9001:2000 and operates in the World
Class Manufacturing Programme.
It
is now almost 10 years since the first of our 4 acquisitions was
made. In 1998, Worcester Parsons' the largest British manufacturer
and supplier of up-market brass hinges was acquired. In 2001,
followed Latham; the manufacturer of the Conqueror high quality
friction hinges and other pvcu products. In September 2002, came
the acquisition of Arthur Shaw the famous British manufacturer
of stays and fasteners for timber windows. In January 2006, we
made our 4th acquisition with the purchase of Lister Locks Limited,
based in Ipswich, England - a large distributor of builders hardware;
including branded and own branded products.
The
acquisition of these companies will enable the company to grow
sales across the range, and offer a more comprehensive portfolio.
It is also part of its strategic plan to further develop the company.
